In ancient times, people lived in a struggle to survive everyday. There was nothing to make life easier—no technology, no tools, just instinct. There was also little to protect them from diseases—no medicine, no hospitals, just instinct, once again. Today, there are already technologies that make life easier, medical supplies to cure all types of pain and ease every little discomfort you may feel. But, many are still unhealthy and many still suffer from diseases. Healthy living is still elusive.
One problem is that there are already too much at present such that most people no longer have to exert efforts to do their daily tasks. There are more cars, for instance, so many individuals seldom walk long distances anymore. Whereas the problem in the past was lack, the problem in the present is over-abundance. Whereas people die of lack in the past (think of malnutrition and famine), many people today die of hypertension and heart problems associated with excess (think of foods excessive in fats and cholesterol).
The Components of Good Health
Many people are in a search of a healthy living, but what is really the component of good health? How do you achieve overall well-being and a healthy life? When you closely look at the concept of health, you will find out that it all boils down to the following three concepts:
• Proper Nutrients. Whereas you will already find a lot of health pills, diet capsules, and all other artificial medicines formulated to promote health today, it’s important to know that the best means to getting healthy is still the basic—fresh fruits and fresh vegetables and natural foods rich in vitamins and minerals. No health pills can ever be better than these.
• Balance. Another key to getting healthy is a balanced lifestyle. It’s not all about food, nor is it all about exercise. It’s a balance of both. Include fruits and vegetables in all your meals, plus meat and fish every now and then. Get your daily dose of protein, iron, zinc, and other vitamins. Exercise regularly. You don’t even need to go to the gym to do this—doing your household chores and going on daily walks is already a form of exercise.
• Proper pace. Being healthy is not all about getting exercise as often as you can or eating as much nutritious food as you can handle. You can’t force it to happen at once. The proper step toward good health is one of consistency and steadiness—just the right amount of food and exercise regularly. It takes a lot of discipline to maintain a consistent routine and a great patience to wait for the result. But at the right pace, you’ll surely arrive at your destination more fulfilled.
By keeping these three components in mind and by making them your starting guide, it would be easy to find the right direction toward good health. And when you finally achieve a healthy living, you’ll realize that the benefits are all worth your effort and time.
